Worries

Sorry people who actually visit my website! I've been pretty absent because work has been busy. I was away all last week at our National Championships on Mount Washington. And of course, it was busy before we left.

Ken left this morning for a week-long tennis tournament in Florida. I know that I'll miss him tons. When the tourney came up, we had already had scheduled the 1st OB/GYN visit for this afternoon. I made the executive decision to go ahead with it rather than trying to re-schedule. It was this afternoon at 3PM. I had no worries about it, just looking forward to meeting the doc that will deliver these babies!

Well, seems that I should have been a bit more worried perhaps. Dr. M had done the triple screen test a few weeks ago and said he'd call if there was anything to worry about. no call so no worry, right? wrong. He sent them to the OB who reviewed them with me. Turns out the screen shows an increased risk for downs syndrome. I'm not really worried about the results per se, more about what the results mean in the short term. There are so often false positives on the tests, it really doesn't mean anything except test some more. Because we only have 1 week left in the "safe to do an amnio" window - I'm being sent for an emergency Level 2 Ultrasound tomorrow and possibly amnio as well, based on the results of the US. And Ken is out of town. :(

I called his sisters to see if they could go with me, because I'm really afraid that the amnio will hurt, or that I'll get bad results and I'll be forced to make a difficult decision on my own. (The OB has scheduled counselling at the same time!!!!) But they can't come because there is a run meeting (for ALS Run: www.alsbc.ca ) which they have to go to (only 4 days to run day).

I had a little bit of a breakdown, but I was able to figure out someone that I would be comfortable having there with me (Thanks Robyn!!!!) and she is psyched about going so I feel better about it all. I wish I could speak with Ken though. He is incommunicado until tomorrow at least. It's times like these that I wished that I lived closer to my family.

Anyway - like I said, I'm not really worried about the test results (well, maybe a bit) but more about the actual test being performaed. I don't deal well with PAIN or with UNKNOWN. I'm going to experience both tomorrow!!!! argh!
